Our own analytics

We record visits to this Site in our own customer-data system, the Boundless Intelligence Engine, which we run ourselves. The Site sends it the page you viewed, the page title, the referring site (without its query string), campaign tags in the link you followed, how long the page was visible and how far you scrolled, clicks on buttons, outbound links and downloads, form submissions (that a form was submitted, not what you typed in it), and page speed measurements. Our server adds your browser's user agent, preferred language and IP address before passing the record on.

• If you accept analytics cookies, we set a first-party cookie called bf_anon that holds a random ID and lasts 2 years. It lets us recognise your browser when you come back, and link those visits to the rest of your record once you give us your email address (for example, when you request a guide).
• If you don't accept analytics cookies, the visit is still counted, but no cookie is read or set. Instead the visit is grouped using a code computed from your IP address, your browser's user agent and a random value that we replace and delete every day. That lets us count visits for that day without being able to recognise you on a later day.
• Either way, our analytics system does not store your IP address.

Third-party analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, we also use:

• Google Analytics (GA4) — to understand traffic patterns, popular content, and audience demographics. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymized usage data.
• Microsoft Clarity — to understand how users interact with our Site through heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity does not collect personal information and masks sensitive content.

In our own analytics system, individual visit and event records are deleted after 13 months; daily totals (such as the number of visits to a page on a given day) are kept longer because they no longer describe any individual visit. Data held by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity is retained according to their retention settings (typically 14 months for Google Analytics).
